Palm Global Flooring has established its reputation for producing eco-friendly wooden flooring. “While most wood flooring comes from forests, with a resulting impact on natural habitats, we work with established coconut plantations to remove their ‘senile’ trees, too old to produce coconuts effectively,” says the director of Palm Global Flooring, Ray Hyland. Hyland notes that that results in more trees that are usable for wood flooring than you might think, estimating that there are, just at present, around a hundred and seventy million ‘senile’ coconut palm trees just in Indonesia, meaning that not only are there plenty to choose from but that the company is therefore effectively recycled ‘waste’ trees rather than chopping down perfectly healthy ones. Perhaps just as importantly, at least for consumers, the results are as impressive as those taken from other trees, and Vancouver has fully embraced the trend. “Vancouverites love green solutions and are not afraid to try something new,” Hyland adds.
