A blue, two tone “Foundation Carpet”, the creation of Playrite, a company based in West Yorkshire, has been fitted around the courts, amounting to approximately 2,500 square metres of space in total. While unlikely to be used for wood floor restoration purposes anytime soon, it makes for a particularly ideal surface for a tennis club.
The club’s indoor and outdoor tennis facilities are considered to be some of the best in the North of England and attract many players from all over the region, according to Philippa Shackleton, the Managing Director of The Academy. “The fitting of the new playing surface is part of our ongoing commitment to provide our members with first-class facilities.”
“The new flooring has made a real difference to the games being played at The Academy,” said the club’s Senior Tennis Coach, Chris Paraskos. “While some indoor surfaces can lead to relatively slow matches, ours is designed to be medium to fast, meaning more exciting tennis played at a quicker pace.”
