Wood Man Seeks Professional Help for Antique Restoration

The owner of an environmentally friendly wood flooring firm, which helps with wood floor restoration, is asking for financial assistance to aid with his own restoration project.

Thirty-three-year-old Jim Sanderson, a firefighter in the UK city of York, has spent more than £320,000 of his own money, with a further £80,000 on restoration, on Belle, a Victorian passenger liner, which is 117 years old. Sanderson intends for Belle to be a regular sight on the waterways of York to provide a startlingly different alternative to the vessels usually seen there.

Belle has been restored with authentic décor from the Victorian period, and Sanderson hopes to get the ship up and running by the beginning of next year. However, he may need financial assistance to put the final touches on it to make it seaworthy. He is asking locals who want to help fundraise or pay for advertising space on the steam-powered, 75 ft craft.

“She looks beautiful now,” Sanderson says. “It will bring the Victorian age back to York – a city famous for the Romans and the Vikings.” Sanderson believes the craft will attract tourists to York and help create new jobs. He claims to have already had more than 2,000 people express an interest in using the vehicle for birthday parties, corporate functions, jazz evenings and murder mystery nights, and even weddings.
