National Wood Flooring Association Mourns the Passing of Its Founder
Virgil Hendricks, the founder of the National Wood Flooring Association, has died at the age of ninety- three. Hendricks died on the nineteenth of this month, exactly one day after his ninety-third birthday. Hendricks came up with the idea of an association that would involve everybody involved in the hardwood flooring industry, and the result was the National Wood Flooring Association, which came into being twenty-six years ago in 1986. Hendricks served as president of the Association for the first five years of its existence and in recent years was still a major part of the industry, regardless of his age, acting as president of his own flooring and wood floor repairs business, Mid-West Floor Company.
“He was a great mentor,” former National Wood Flooring Association president Jonny McSwain told Hardwood Floors Magazine. “I have a lot of respect for him because he put this whole organisation together.”
Other former colleagues were equally quick to sing the praises of Virgil Hendricks, including George Roth, the general manager of Lockwood Flooring. “Nobody in the industry had more passion for his business and people than Virgil Hendricks,” Roth says. “Working with him for ten years, I never knew him to have a hobby outside of his businesses. It was a real honor and a pleasure to work with Virgil.”
After more than two and a half decades in existence, more than three and a half thousand National Wood Flooring Association members are located worldwide.
