According to a new report, most ceramic flooring tiles in the United Kingdom are imported overseas rather than from British flooring companies. This is, of course, very much to the detriment of homegrown companies based in the United Kingdom. Unlike other countries, such as Korea, which has added taxes to Chinese imports of ceramic tiles following complaints from domestic manufacturers, British flooring manufacturers have no such rules protecting them and have little chance of competing with the absurdly low prices at which the imports can be sold. Flooring Tile Drama That is not to say that flooring manufacturers in the United Kingdom have no way of fighting back, however. This month, the Contract Flooring Journal published an article noting that British flooring manufacturing companies can fight the good fight by focusing on differentiation to ensure that tiles imported from overseas do not entirely overshadow and overwhelm the homegrown UK market. Ceramic tiles are used primarily in areas such as the bathroom and kitchens due to their highly durable nature. While other floors, such as wooden flooring, are also very durable, they do not offer the same resistance to water, resulting in damage and the necessity for repairs such as wood floor restoration. However, another viable alternative to ceramic tiles is vinyl flooring tiles, which are also highly durable and water resistant, thus making them ideal for bathroom and kitchen environments.
