Kahrs of Sweden: A New Chapter in Chile with Premium Wood Flooring
The Swedish company Kahrs, which specializes in wood flooring, including that which is ideal for use in wood floor restoration, has become the first firm in the world to purchase new material from Chile.
Kahrs, one of the biggest such wood flooring companies throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, has signed up to purchase material that meets both FSC and Fairtrade certification standards from Chile. This comes after decades of work to make Chile’s forests in the Curacautin Valley able to support sustainable living for those who live and work in the area after the valley was seriously damaged by mismanagement during the last century.
“We are proud to be able to contribute to this development,” says the Chief Executive Officer of Kahrs, Per Skarner. “We hope to alleviate poverty and restore biodiversity by offering the first flooring made of FSC-Fairtrade certified in the world.” Skarner adds, “We want to encourage companies that share our common values of respect for nature and people to partner up with us in this important Corporate Responsibility project.”
2011 has already been declared “the Year of the Forests” by the United Nations General Assembly to try and raise global awareness of the need for the conservation, development, and sustainable management of all manner of forests from all over the world.
Kahrs has more than 150 years worth of experience in the flooring industry.
