Floor Sanding Services News
A recent law introduced in the United States is beginning to impact the illegal logging industry, news that is good for trees and the wood flooring industry. As the law is known, the Lacey Act was brought into being four years ago in 2008 but is just recently being felt to have made an impact. However, experts in the industry still believe there is some way to go before illegal logging can be stamped out entirely.
“The Lacey law is slow moving, but I think it’s getting rid of a lot of illegal logging,” notes Don Finkell, the chief executive officer of Anderson Hardwood Floors. “I still think a lot of work needs to be done to clean it up. Behind the scenes, everybody is scrambling to get on the right side of this.”
The real problem is that even the most reputable of wood flooring and wood floor restoration companies could end up inadvertently using illegally logged wood simply because of how difficult it is to keep track of the supply chain of the industry, so many feel that changes also need to be made there to make it more straightforward where wood supplies have originated from. While such moves are not likely to happen overnight, they would undoubtedly pull another leg out from underneath the illegal logging industry. In the meantime, however, the Lacey Act seems to be slowly making a difference.
