Estate Hardwood Floors: An End of an Era with Its Shutdown
Estate Hardwood Floors, the manufacturing side of Kellur Hardwood Flooring, which is based in Renfrew, Canada, was shut down last week, with its hardwood floor products, ideal for wood floor repairs among other uses, now set to be made by other companies both in Canada and overseas. Ironically enough, the closing of Estate Hardwood Floors comes barely a year after Kellur Hardwood Flooring was named one of the fifty best-managed companies in Canada.
While fifty people have lost their jobs due to the closure of the subsidiary company, it is perhaps a mark of how far the situation has deteriorated in the last twelve months that the company was employing closer to ninety people at this point last year.
In a somewhat more favorable turn of events for Kellur Hardwood Flooring, however, with its retail company reopening its doors in Renfrew at the end of this month, moving across the street from its old location at 2 Innovation Drive to 1 Innovation Drive. The move will give the company extra space, including a new showroom at the Innovation Centre, where it will rub shoulders with other companies such as Ottawa Valley Glass and Marshall’s. “Fortunately, the Renfrew Industrial Commission had some office space become vacant,” notes Renfrew Industrial Commission general manager Dave Lemkay. “We have worked out an arrangement as the company reorganizes.”
The company’s fifty retail employees will retain their positions when the store reopens in its new location.
