Floor Sanding Blogs

Tate Britain is a world famous art gallery which first opened to the public in 1987.
After years and thousands of visitors, one of the gallery floors had become worn so we were called in to help.
Millions of visitors flock to the Tate galleries. If we took too long, it would delay re-opening the gallery and lose visitors to the displays.
The gallery is internationally renowned and our work had to reflect the high reputation of the building.
Area:
Gallery floor- 52.2 m2

The gallery was cleared of all exhibits so we could see all floorboards and assess damage. Though the general state of the floor was good, there were some minor repairs needed and loose floorboards to be nailed down.
After that, the work was standard. We sanded, buffed and vacuumed before adding three layers of heavy duty lacquer.

With the lacquer, the gallery will be resilient to the heavy volumes of foot traffic going through the room on a daily basis. A smooth, cared for surface is more appropriate for a room housing valuable art.
If the floor remains cared for, even with the high volumes of visitors passing through daily, the floor should remain resilient and last years.
