What was the job?
A Wimbledon home needed maintenance and repair work on floors throughout the house, including a wooden staircase. As well as sanding, some floors had loose boards which needed nailing down.Challenges
Uneven and broken floorboards had to be repaired and nailed down before work could begin, otherwise machines could be damaged and the end result wouldn’t be satisfactory. There were also some gaps in the existing floorboards which needed filling. Sanding staircases is understandably more awkward than sanding level floors, so this meant a trickier job for our operatives.How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
Before the sanding process began, we nailed down and secured all the loose floorboards. After sanding and levelling the floor, we filled gaps with resin to prevent debris falling in between boards and to fully smooth out the surface. The staircase did not need any repair work but was sanded to improve the look and so it could be walked on safely without a carpet covering. Lacquer was applied to every area we worked on, adding sheen to the surface and also making sure that our work will benefit the property for years to come.During the floor restoration
The results
When our work was complete, the floor was smooth, even and looked like new. Because of treatment we used the wood’s colour was lighter, giving the impression of more space, and it also fits better with contemporary styles.
