Experience the Luxury of the Royal Eco Natural House
There was a very regal touch to the Ideal Home Show, which was held in London recently, in the form of Prince Charles’ own Natural House, so named due to its very environmentally friendly (long a concern of the Prince) design. Constructed from all-natural materials and decorated with predominantly vintage furnishings, the Natural House uses such materials as lime plaster, sheep’s wool insulation, and clay blocks for the walls of the house, which come with high levels of board insulation made from wood fiber, meaning that central heating is one thing that just is not required in this house, with a simple wood burning fire the only form of heating that will be needed to maintain a warm, comfortable temperature even in harsh United Kingdom winters.
Wood is also used elsewhere in the Natural House, namely in the floors and windows, constructed with FSC-certified timber, making it extra easy to carry out repairs, including wood floor restoration, should the time come when it is necessary to do so.
The Natural House is intended to be maintained after the Ideal Home Show as a show home, with a second such example to be built at a building research center, with the ultimate hope and goal of recreating it in large numbers across the whole of United Kingdom, with modifications to suit various individual and community needs and requirements. At the moment, it stands as a monument to what could be achieved with a little effort and consideration for the environment.
