Introducing Curved Wood Floors: The Future of Sustainable Flooring

Using curving patterns on wooden floors, including in cases of wood floor repairs, could significantly reduce the amount of waste, according to a flooring company called Bolefloor. The Dutch flooring company uses a mix of CNC production and hi-tech computer software to make quality wood flooring that makes the most of wood. It calculates how much of the material needs to be cut to create curved patterns that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle and reduces waste to an absolute minimum. Curved Wood Floors

This is achieved using “wood scanning systems, tailor-made CAD/. According to the company, CAM developments and innovative optimization algorithms for placement software were developed by a Finnish engineering automation company and three software companies in cooperation with the Institute of Cybernetics at Tallinn University of Technology”. The software in question does not just help to fit the pieces together but even factors in imperfections in the edges or the ends of the wood to make the finished product as durable as possible. As well as cutting down on waste, the new idea, while meaning that each floor has to be custom produced, does mean that wood floor repairs for such flooring should be straightforward to accomplish as the same file can be utilized by the software in question to make a perfect replacement copy for the damaged section. Bolefloor is the “world’s first industrial-scale manufactured hardwood flooring with naturally curved lengths.”
