What was the job?
A residential property in Balham, South London, had wood floors in desperate need of repair and maintenance work after going untreated for too long.
Challenges
Before we could start, there was significant repair work to be done. Both rooms were in use and had to be cleared before boards could be fitted and nailed down.
Because there was a young child who needed the room, work could not take too long and we had to make sure there was no dust left after we finished.
Areas:
Front room: 18.1 m2
Back room: 16.7 m2
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
In order to create as level a surface as possible, we fitted new boards and properly secured them. This did make the room look worse before it got better, but was a necessary step in fully repairing the floor.
After nailing down all boards, sanding and buffing, we were then free to apply a coat of walnut stain and four coats of clear lacquer.
During the floor restoration
The results
With the dark tone of the stain, the repair work we did is not at all noticeable. The floor is also safer as there are no weak or damaged boards. This is particularly important for rooms which children use.
With over 30 years of experience and 25,000+ floors restored, the Mr Sander® team shares expert tips on wooden floor care, sanding, and restoration. Trusted across the UK, we help homeowners and businesses bring lasting beauty, durability, and warmth to every wooden surface we touch.
