What was the job?
We went to St Albans to repair floors which were significantly worse for wear.
Challenges
Some areas were more damaged than others and this had to be assessed properly. Where the damage was too significant, we replaced and refitted some floorboards. We had to be careful as some of the work was next to the staircase. Everything had to be secure to prevent falls both during work and after we left.
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
Quite a lot of work needed to be carried out before we could begin sanding. The floors on the landing were especially damaged and this was a danger, as loose floorboards are a trip hazard.
When we were sure all boards were fitted securely, we began the three stage sanding process with dust free machines. After filling gaps, buffing and vacuuming, we added a coat of dark mahogany stain.
During the floor restoration
The results
The dark stain combines with our quality work to hide signs of sanding having been carried out on the floor. As the surface is now level, it is a lot safer.
