What was the job?
New Cross is a district in Lewisham, South London.
A home-owner in the area needed sanding work on their floors and staircase.
Challenges
Some floorboards in the hallway were loose, mismatched and splattered with paint.
The staircases were not in terrible condition but sanding the paint off would take longer and working on steps is more dangerous than on a floor.
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
We nailed down any loose floorboards in the hallways to create a smooth surface for sanding. There was also a hole at the bottom of one staircase we had to fill for a completely professional job.
When sanding the floors, we were sure to keep them level, despite them being split into painted and bare sections.
Our resin and wood slivers gap filler enhanced the surface aesthetically and made it easier to buff and vacuum. Four coats of clear lacquer were then used.
The results
Thanks to sanding, the wood in the hallways appears as a uniform colour. This is not the case for the stairs, as the owner requested the two-tone remain in the stain.
The knots in the wood complete a natural look which compliments the light décor. This was not visible when the wood was dark and uncared for.
