What was the job?
A home in Lindfield, West Sussex, needed maintenance work in several rooms after the floors had become damaged. One room had carpets over the floorboards and this had left them severely neglected.
Challenges
Carpeting over floorboards meant they were not maintained at all. Because of this, we knew which floors would require more attention.
The customer requested that all doors be closed and the TV remain plugged in for the duration of our work.
It was requested that the stain be as close to the original colour as possible.
Areas:
Study- 13.5 m2
Play room- 14.3 m2
Lounge- 24.40 m2
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
We removed and disposed of the carpet to clear the working area and removed furniture in the lounge before sanding.
A coat of stain was then applied after buffing to match the original colour. Extra stain was required in one room and on some particularly discoloured boards.
We finished the job by applying four coats of lacquer.
During the floor restoration
The results
Though the colour is much the same but the look of the floors is improved by the quality of the finish.
Without carpet blocking access, it will be easier for the owners to maintain the floors through routine cleaning and polishing.
With lacquer, the boards will be resilient to scratches caused by everyday family life.
