In the midst of a whispering forest, where one might expect the resonance of wild bird calls or the soft padding of wildlife, there emerged an anomaly. Solid timbers, the kind that narrates stories of old houses and intricate restorations, were being layered one over another, not in a stately home but for a child’s play haven—a Wendy house. It’s a curiosity to fathom this scale of devotion for what is essentially a child’s retreat, mirroring the imposing chalet nestled amidst the snowy peaks of the Swiss Alps.
There’s an old saying that hints at the eccentricities of wealth, and this structure, amounting to a staggering £150,000, lends credence to that notion. From the foundation, which hums the deep resonance of timber, to the embrace of warmth through under-floor heating and the hush of double-glazed windows, every detail has been pursued with unyielding precision.
The monumental feat saw £50,000 poured into merely transporting materials and the soulful labour of ten craftsmen, each dedicating 2,000 hours, moulding this vision into reality. Beyond its four walls lie four bedrooms and a kitchen as tangible and detailed as any home, equipped with a modern refrigerator and bustling electric hobs. Rising 3.6 metres into the air, this Wendy’s house seems less like a simple plaything and more like a testament to grandeur.
The craftsman behind this marvel, a quiet observer from a British firm, commented, “Its design is intricate, meant to brace against the fierce cold of the alpine world. On my last visit, the air temperature was minus seventeen. But inside, we’ve woven a cocoon of warmth, ensuring those young souls will always find solace. It is, by all means, a luxurious haven.
