What was the job?
A home in Camberwell, South London, had floors that had suffered from years without care and attention. The owner no longer wanted the white paint which was covering the wood so it had to be stripped off.Challenges
Some of the damage was not very visible because it was covered by white paint but sanding this down repaired the surface anyway.
Sanding stairs is more awkward than a wood floor because of the reduced working area and less sturdy surface for workmen to stand on.
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
We supplied and fitted new boards where they were too damaged and gaps too big. Smaller gaps left after sanding were filled with resin to prevent things falling through and improve the look of the spaces. We sanded the floors to both remove paint and improve the quality. After sanding the stairs, we repainted the front of each step to bring back the quality look intended when it was first done. We finished the job by lacquering all the surfaces we worked on.During the floor restoration
The results
After our work, the house looks cleaner and less like there is ongoing DIY.The stairs now look a lot better and the finish is professional. Each area looks a little different so the overall look is not uniform, as some customers prefer.
