What was the job?
Purley Youth Project, Surrey, caters for kids aged 7-12. Set up in the 1980s, the aim is to provide a safe place for activities and to socialise.
The oak floorboards in the centre had become worn down due to heavy foot traffic from day-to-day use.
Challenges
The centre provides an important service within the community and, despite the large size of the room, work had to be quick and efficient.
Area: Youth centre: 137.51 m2
How the floor looked before we started work

What we did
Before work started, the room was cleared of removable obstructions so work could be completed within a short a time as possible while still being of high quality. After the three stage sanding process, the floor was buffed and vacuumed ready for lacquer. As the building sees a lot of footfall and is used for activities, five coats of lacquer were used to make the wood more resilient against damage.

The results
Thanks to our work, the floor has been given a new lease of life and is ready for years of use by the centre. Sanded floors are more sanitary, meaning the building is now more suitable for children.
