What was the job?
We were asked to go to Reading and restore steps and floors in a residential property.
Challenges
On one floor in particular, there were discoloured boards which would require a little more work in order to achieve a uniform tone.
Sanding steps always presents issues because of the reduced surface area and difficulty when sanding risers.
Areas:
Entrance hallway: 7.6 m2 (Pine floorboards – 17 cm)
Steps- 2 No. treads & risers
Time taken:
1 day
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
We were careful not to over-sand the discoloured areas, but did have to achieve a lighter colouring across the whole surface. When we had managed this, we could continue as normal until the entire floor was ready for stain and lacquer.
During the floor restoration
The results
Thanks to sanding and stain, the floor is a lot lighter and more aesthetically pleasing. We successfully applied the same quality of work to the steps and the knots in the wood give off a more natural effect.
