A dance of wooden patterns unfurling across Rise Hall’s vast expanse, a stately Georgian guardian nestled in Hull. And serendipitously, it is the dwelling of Sarah Beeny, the very spirit behind the show. Sarah’s dream? To breathe life into Rise Hall’s ancient bones, so it might once again stand proud as a haven for lovers beginning their journey together. In tracing back the circles of time, we find Jim roughly a season and a half ago, or 16 months if we let the calendar tell it, in the year 2010. His path began in the harmonious ballet of hands and tools, a dance that spanned two decades in the realm of flooring. But as the winds of change blew, with more hands reaching for the mantle of floor fitting and the fervour of DIY awakening, Jim felt a calling.
