What was the job?

The University of London is a research  institution based in the city. The floors in the Student Central building were in need of some routine maintenance work.

Challenges

The working area was considerably large. There were also markings which had to stay in the same place but sanding would remove them. Sanding around pillars was awkward due to the shape of the machines we use.

What we did

We supplied and fitted new grip tape to the ramp for disabled access and started the sanding process. There were no hurdles to this work but it was time consuming purely because of the space we had to work in. When the boards were all level, we added two coats of base prime before three coats of commercial lacquer. After that, we were able to conclude with court line marking so the layout was the same as when we started.

The results

As the markings are in the same place as before we sanded, the only sign of any work is the higher quality and shine of the floor. Commercial lacquer was required because of the heavy foot traffic. This means the floors, if looked after, should have many years before they need to be sanded again.
