Floor Sanding Blogs

The owners of a residential property in Kilburn, London, wanted a dark stain on their wood floors. Before that could be done, we needed to sand the surface for the best finish.
The fireplace was a slight obstruction and there were gaps between boards which had to be fixed to prevent uneven work with the stain, and the edges were rough in spots.

Loose floorboards were nailed down before we began sanding with dust-free machines. To fill the gaps, we used a mixture of wood slivers and resin. This keeps the filler strong and more effective. After buffing and vacuuming any debris left behind, we had a smooth, level surface to work on.
At the customer’s request, we applied layers of dark oak stain before finishing with four coats of lacquer.
The look of the room is considerably different, the colour of the floor having a big effect on the overall style. Thanks to our work levelling the floor, it is a smooth surface that appears like it has only just been fitted.
The lacquer will preserve the dark colour of the stain and protect it from scratches caused by moving furniture, and general wear and tear.
