We journeyed to Thornton Heath, Croydon, for a home with floors that had not been maintained properly.
Challenges
There were two hearths which needed restitching and this would delay sanding work. One floor was concealed when we arrived and this had to be fixed so we could assess the state of the wood.
Some boards were damaged and needed to be replaced, which meant uplifting some other boards in order to secure the new ones.
Areas:
Lounge- 19.4 m2 (pine floorboards- 13 cm)
Dining room- 10.5 m2

How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
We restitched the hearths in each room and replaced six linear metres of floorboards. With a smoother and stronger surface, we were able to begin sanding. Before buffing and vacuuming, we filled gaps with a resin and sawdust mix.
We added a coat of stain to each surface and then finished with four layers of lacquer.
During the floor restoration
The results
The wood floors make the rooms look a lot better than they did with the previously covered surface.
Because of the lacquer, the floors should maintain their quality finish for a while to come.
