What was the job?

The floors in a South Croydon property were worn, discoloured and loose. We were asked to restore them to former glory.

Challenges

The surface was a little uneven because some boards were not as secure as they should have been. The hearth also presented an issue because boards were loose there and we needed to fit new boards. Those new boards had to match old ones to avoid making our work look obvious.

What we did 

All floorboards were checked to see which ones needed to be secured down and gaps were identified then fixed. We restitched the hearth, matching wood to the existing pattern. With level surfaces, we could sand the surfaces and reach the desired lighter colour which was underneath the untreated wood. After sanding, buffing and vacuuming, we lacquered the floors.

The results

The floors are now a lot lighter and more welcoming. With treated floors, the home looks cleaner overall. The front room has a full wooden floor now, the underneath no longer exposed at the hearth.
