What was the job?
We travelled to Kingston Vale as a homeowner in the area needed repair and sanding work for their pine floorboards.
Challenges
Some floors were more damaged than others and needed more attention before we could begin the assigned sanding task.
Areas:
Ground floor kitchen + Pantry: 6 m2 (Original pine floorboards + 17.50 m2 new pine floorboards – 13 cm)
Passage + bathroom- 4 m2
Study- 3.8 m2
First floor front bathroom- 3.8 m2
Rear bathroom- 2 m2
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
Some floorboards needed to be replaced as the gaps were too large to justify simply refitting them. We replaced five linear metres in total.
For the new boards, we used a two stage sanding process. The usual three stage process was still used for all other parts of the working area, as we were trying to match up the quality.
A coat of golden oak stained was applied in the kitchen and dark rich mahogany added for the rest of the floors. All of the surfaces were finally treated with four coats of clear lacquer.
The results
Our work in the kitchen is particularly noticeable, as that is where the significant damage was. Without gaps and holes, it will be easier to clean and maintain.
