What was the job?
A domestic client in Kirkstall Gardens, Brixton, needed some help to renovate their wooden floors.
The floorboards needed sanding after going untreated and being stained with paint.
Challenges
We had to sand off paint splashes, which requires a little more work, but still keep everything level.
One floor was completely painted so we could not see the full quality of the floorboards but could see loose floorboards and gaps.
Some plug sockets were close to the working area and, subsequently, the machines. This meant an extra level of care had to be taken.
Areas:
Landing- 2.5 m2
Study- 5.2 m2
Back bedroom- 11.7 m2
Time taken:1 day
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
To start, we secured loose floorboards which were clear to see even under the surface paint.
Then we sanded away all paint and were left with a smooth surface to buff and vacuum. With gaps filled, we went on to apply four layers of clear lacquer.
The results
Sanded, clean floors look better than the previously painted boards. Now the owners have full access to the boards and can maintain them properly.
The lacquer will provide more durability than paint, which was vulnerable to scratches and had already worn down. And in our opinion, and thankfully the client’s, the floors look hugely improved.
