What was the job?
Wembley is an area of London famed for its stadium.
Several rooms in a property needed maintenance work to
restore its parquet flooring after being worn by day-to-day use.
Challenges
There was light damage to some blocks in the doorway which meant they had to be replaced.
There were also other damaged patches which meant we had to carry out repairs before the assigned sanding task could begin.
Areas:
Entrance hallway- 6.9 m2 (oak parquet blocks – 23 cm x 6.5 cm)
Play room- 14.7 m2
Lounge- 17.2 m2
How the floor looked before we started work
What we did
We supplied and fitted approximately 0.5m2 of oak blocks for a patch repair by the doorway. We then also supplied three linear metres for other areas. All loose blocks were glued down before we began sanding.
With a level surface, we used the usual three stage process with dust free machines. Any small gaps were filled with resin to enhance the cosmetic appeal.
We finished with a coat of plum mahogany stain and four coats of lacquer.
During the floor restoration
The results
A smooth, level floor is safer and also looks better. Without loose parquet blocks, it will be easier to maintain the quality of our work. The lacquer should work to seal the colour and leave the wood resilient to scratches.
