What was the job?
We were called to Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School in London to add a new lease of life to the parquet floors in two of their classrooms. Our parquet restoration means this flooring will now last for many years to come.
Challenges
The hours in which we can realistically work in a school are more limited than in a home. Unless we know the work will not disrupt classes, it is better to arrange the job for school holidays.
The floors were considerably scuffed, worn down by heavy foot traffic.
The damage to the blocks was limited to the surface so there were no areas which needed extra attention, such as for relaying wood. However, we did need extra sanding to remove carpet adhesive.
When this was complete, we were able to move onto sanding, buffing and vacuuming the floor. Because schools see more footfall than homes, we added five layers of lacquer instead of the standard four.
The results
If the floors had been left in their previous state, they would not have lasted for much longer. Thanks to our work, they should remain at a high quality for years to come.
The lacquer will add resistance to the day-to-day usage in a school.
