2. Site Preparation and Protection

We move furniture, planters and barbecues, protect adjoining walls, French doors and patio surfaces, and lay down dust sheeting on anything we can’t move. If your deck butts up against a kitchen with bi-folds, we’ll seal the threshold properly.

3. Dust-Extracted Sanding

Most domestic decks are sanded, cleaned and finished within 1–2 working days. Larger or more complex projects, particularly hardwood decks needing multiple oil coats, may take 3 days. Drying times for finishes vary — we’ll always give you a clear timeline at the survey stage so you know exactly when the deck will be ready to use.

Will sanding actually remove black mould, algae and old stain?

Yes — properly executed sanding removes the entire weathered top layer, including embedded mould, algae spores, old stains, paint splashes and previous finishes. You’re left with clean, fresh timber ready to take a new protective finish. It’s the only method that genuinely resets the deck.

What finish do you recommend for British weather?

For most London gardens we recommend a premium decking oil with UV inhibitors and water repellents — products like Osmo, Bona Naturale Exterior or Sikkens depending on the timber and look you’re after.
